The Economist has an article about the use of guns by UK police as opposed to cop involved shootings here in America, and what causes the insane differences in police shooting numbers.
One statistic in particular blew my mind: in 2013 police in all of Britain only fired their weapons three times. THREE FUCKING TIMES!
Michael Brown was shot a minimum of six times, so in that one encounter in Ferguson, Missouri, Officer Darren Wilson fired off at least twice the bullets as all of England’s finest last year.
Even accounting for the difference in populations, you are 100 times more likely to be shot by a cop here in the United States than in Britain.
